An exhibition dedicated to the modernist Georges Papazoff (1894–1972) was opened at the Bulgarian Antarctic Base “St. Kliment Ohridski” on Livingston Island, the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute announced. The works were presented by art historian and curator Maria Vassileva, as well as by collector and philanthropist Gueorgui Vassilev.
The exhibition, featuring 11 drawings from Gueorgui Vassilev’s collection, is a symbolic act and a continuation of the journey. In a place where the boundaries of human presence come close to the edge of the world, the art of Georges Papazoff feels at home. Just as the artist once set out from Yambol toward Europe with faith in himself, his drawings today travel toward new horizons—beyond continents, beyond time, toward that boundless space where humanity and the world converge, reports Marina Velikova from the Bulgarian National Radio, who is taking part in the 34th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition.
