A short film programme titled Bulgarian Crafts: Documentary and Short Cinema explores Bulgarian identity through six award-winning films about traditional crafts, with screenings scheduled in several Bulgarian cities in January.
The selection takes viewers on a journey through traditional crafts such as embroidery, stone carving and rakia production, presenting ancient knowledge and skills passed down from generation to generation, the organisers from Cinematograph said.
“The crafts are a form of wealth and culture – the wisdom of the hands, handed down from master to apprentice, refined over time while preserving tradition,” the organisers said.
The Secrets of Bukhara is the only film in the programme that is not focused on a Bulgarian craft. Shot by a Bulgarian team, it explores silk and silk-making traditions in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, highlighting similarities in the traditional aesthetics of the two countries.
The programme will be screened on 9 January in Burgas, 15 January in Dobrich, and 19 January in Sofia.
