On January 11, an unknown person carried out an attack against the Bulgarian embassy in Skopje. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns this act against the building of the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje – a symbol of statehood and the official presence of Bulgaria in North Macedonia. This is an unacceptable attack on the status of the diplomatic mission and a gross violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deep concern that such an act is the result of the systematic lack of reaction by the competent institutions in Skopje to previous attacks and acts of vandalism against places related to Bulgaria and the Bulgarian community. This institutional passivity, combined with the tolerated and even incited hate speech against Bulgaria and Bulgarians in the neighbouring country, has created an environment in which such criminal acts are encouraged and escalated, the ministry said in a statement, urging the authorities in North Macedonia to immediately take all necessary actions to identify the perpetrator and bring them to justice.
